Lonitzer was a respected mathematics professor before obtaining his medical degree and becoming municipal physician for Frankfurt. His wife was Magdalena Egenolph, daughter o f the printer Christian Egenolph. Lonitzer helped with proofreading for his father-in-law and was also able to publish many of his own works. Lonitzer’s Krueterbuch is a reworking of two works; one by Rosslin and the other by Dorsten with both works credited, but edited and added to form a unique work. The coloring on the illustrations is very heavy handed, but is oddly in keeping with the woodcut illustrations.
